Whether you're just getting started or looking to go further, this guide offers proven ways to get the most out of MasteryPrep. Explore tips for using key features effectively and learn how to implement the platform in class or through independent practice.
Best Practices Overview
You'll get the best results from MasteryPrep if you align your implementation plan, reporting rhythm, and teaching tools.
Choosing an Implementation Plan
Before you get started with the platform, you should collaborate as a team to choose an implementation plan that best suits your instructional goals.
Considerations
If you don't have a plan in mind, consider the following questions:
- What is the ultimate goal of your program? Consider your score improvement outcomes, adoption goals, student and teacher satisfaction—anything that is important to your success.
- When will you implement the program? Consider if you will use the platform year-round, for a single semester, or in the weeks leading up to the test administration, as well as how often you expect teachers and students to use the program in preparation.
- Will this be used in-class, as independent practice, or both? Consider if teachers will use the platform during their class time and if you expect students to work independently, either at school or home.
- How will you monitor and measure success? Consider what kind of metrics you want to monitor during the implementation, such as activity and time spent on platform, and how you plan to measure success at the end of the implementation.
Common Implementation Patterns
There are many successful ways to implement the MasteryPrep platform. Here are a few common implementation patterns to give you inspiration:
- As part of a class: train core teachers to use the platform on a daily or weekly basis, either by aligning plans to their scope and sequence or by facilitating personalized plans through adaptive study plans.
- As independent study: set aside time for students to work through the platform independently, using adaptive study plans and closely monitored usage and performance metrics.
- As intervention: use the platform during RTI, homeroom, or other intervention periods as the primary curriculum in conjunction with a live tutor or intervention specialist.
- As a booster class: build a plan that makes heavy use of the platform in the 4–6 weeks leading up to test day.
Establishing a Reporting Rhythm
Consider which reports will be useful to drive your implementation plan to your goal outcomes:
- Pick the most relevant reporting view for your implementation plan.
- Use Student and Teacher Usage to track activity and time spent on platform. These views are great for monitoring adoption, especially in the early days.
- Use Scores and Goals to track outcomes on scored content like practice tests and diagnostics. These views are perfect for measuring success.
- Customize your reporting views using the + Add View above the filter bar at the top of the screen.
- Use Download in the top right of any detailed table to download a report.
- Decide how often you plan to generate the report (weekly, monthly, etc.), and use the date filter to help you narrow data to the right time period.
Best Practices for Teaching Tools
Take advantage of your available teaching tools to support your implementation plan:
Study Plan
- Set the Study Plan to Manual if you want to customize the scope and sequence of the course.
- Set the Study Plan to Adaptive if you want each student to receive a personalized plan based on their diagnostic or practice test.
Bell Ringers
- Present a Bell Ringer at the start of class throughout the year to keep test prep relevant to students.
- Use Bell Ringers to lead full-group review sessions on targeted skills as students complete their prep course.
Test Administration
- Provide a tight testing window using the Test Administration tool to encourage students to complete their tests in a timely fashion.
- Adjust the Advanced Settings to control when students are able to review their test to discourage sharing answers mid-test.
Summary
MasteryPrep works best when your plan, reports, and tools are aligned. Whether your goal is for class use or independent practice, these strategies will help you stay focused and drive results.
